Prepare for home-interior handover with a room-by-room checklist for finishes, fitted furniture, documents and outstanding work across Delhi NCR and Tricity.

Check the agreed work, not just the finished photographs

A freshly styled home can look complete while small operational items still need attention. Interior handover is the point to compare the installed work with your agreed drawings and selections, record outstanding items and understand how to care for what has been supplied.

This checklist is for the handover of an apartment or villa interior project. It is not a substitute for builder-possession checks, a structural survey or specialist electrical and plumbing testing. Arrange the relevant professional inspections separately. The same organised approach can support homes across Delhi NCR and Tricity without assuming every property has the same scope.

Prepare a small handover pack

Bring the latest approved room layouts, furniture schedule, material selections and written changes. Include owner-supplied items so everyone knows which party is responsible. Walk through with the project representative rather than sending a disconnected collection of messages afterwards.

  • List every room and the work included there.
  • Keep the approved samples or selection references available.
  • Use a single issue log with photographs and room names.
  • Agree who will demonstrate fittings and collect product documents.
  • Arrange specialist testing and reports for relevant installed systems.

Follow the same route through every room

Start at the door, then check fitted storage, visible finishes, supplied fixtures and the furniture arrangement. Ask the installer to demonstrate normal operation of drawers, shutters and accessories. Look for consistency with the approved selection and note visible damage, incomplete edges or missing items. Do not dismantle equipment or attempt technical tests yourself.

In kitchens, compare the installed storage and appliance openings with the approved schedule. In bedrooms, check whether furniture interferes with cabinet operation or the intended route through the room. In living areas, check that visible switches and service access have not been unintentionally obstructed. Refer any concern about safety or services to the appropriate professional.

Use an issue log that can actually be closed

Avoid vague entries such as ‘wardrobe not good’. Describe the location, observed issue and expected reference. A photograph is useful, but a named owner and a reinspection decision are what make the item actionable.

Add the checks your property type needs

For an apartment, clarify the boundary between your interior work and the builder's or society's systems. Confirm access arrangements for any return visit and identify items the interior contractor did not alter. Do not assume a problem belongs to the contractor merely because it is noticed at handover.

For a villa or multi-floor home, use a separate room list for each level and identify shared controls, maintenance access and any external work that was included. A floor-by-floor record helps prevent a finished ground floor from masking unresolved work elsewhere. Specialist systems and structural matters still need the relevant experts.

Collect the documents before the team leaves

Request relevant care instructions, product details, applicable warranties and available as-built information for the agreed work. Confirm the contact process for reporting a problem and distinguish product warranty support from installation-related support.

Record outstanding items honestly; a snag list is not evidence that every system has been certified. Align handover and payment decisions with the agreed terms, seeking professional advice where needed. Keep a final copy of the closed log so future maintenance does not depend on memory.

Common questions

Is this the same as a new-flat possession inspection?

No. This checklist addresses your agreed interior fit-out. Builder possession, structural condition and statutory or technical compliance require their own checks by the responsible parties.

Can I inspect a furnished home?

Yes, but agree how the team can access fitted items and inspect visible work without damaging belongings. An inspection before move-in is often easier to organise, subject to project readiness.

What makes a useful defect photograph?

Take one view that identifies the room or item and another that shows the specific issue. Add a written description and reference it in the same issue log.
